The purpose of the UC Science and Mathematics Teacher Initiative (SMI/CalTeach) review is to assess the capacity of SMI/CalTeach, as it is currently designed and implemented, to fully develop and become a state and national model for for improving the undergraduate pipeline to mathematics and science teaching credentials and achieve the stated goal of increasing by 1,000 the number of new credential teachers in California.

In addition to the initial Review Panel meeting (February 8, 2010), the review will consist of document review, 1-2 site visits, telephone interviews as needed/appropriate, a half-day meeting/conference call to plan the report, and reviews of report drafts. We expect the review to be completed by April, and that your time commitment (including meetings, site visits and interviews, and reviews of drafts) should not exceed 40 hours between January and April.
